IR 621 Current Issues in Turkish Foreign Policy
This course aims to provide a multi-dimensional perspective to the events which confront Turkish Foreign Policy. Turkey’s foreign relations and ties in post-Cold War era with the European Union, the Middle East, Central Asia and the US will be examined in light of different theoretical perspectives.
IR 622 Current Debates in International Relations Theory
This course offers a critical analysis of contending theories of international relations. Focus is on alternative theoretical assumptions, different analytical structures, and a common core of concepts and content. It also presents a discussion of connections between theories of international relations and major changes in international relations.
IR 623 Foreign Policy Analysis
The aim of this seminar is to introduce students to the most important frameworks of analysis in the study of foreign policy. The seminar follows both a logical and chronological order as to the appearance and development of the different models. In this context, the meaning and the nature of foreign policy process and internal and external sources foreign policy will be analyzed with reference to case studies.
IR 624 EU Foreign and Security Policy
This course aims at introducing the students with the theoretical and empirical analysis of the EU's foreign, security and defense policies.
IR 625 Advanced Readings in Globalization
This course explores the global nature of contemporary social and politcal change. It takes globalization as the master trend reshaping social life everywhere, while recognizing that social outcomes are shaped through interaction with other processes as well. The course is interdisciplinary, combining perspectives from sociology, political science, economics and philosophy to explore the meanings of globalization and its central processes and institutional structures. It pays particular attention to the relationship between globalization, inequality and poverty; the fate of cultural diversity in a globalizing world; and issues of gender, ethnicity, the environment, social justice, and human rights..
IR 626 Eurasian Geopolitics
This course offers a critical examination of the emerging importance of the Eurasia region in international politics with special emphasis on the politics of the post-Cold War era.
IR 627 Politics and Society in Middle East
This course commences with an overview of the historical events of the Middle East that are crucial to understanding the emergence of the modern period, it discusses the main elements of culture and society in the Middle East and concludes with current issues, opportunities and challenges.
IR 628 Political and Social Economy of Development
This course examines the role of state in economic, social, and human development by looking at the interplay between the state and market in development process. It also provides an in-depth analysis of the issues concerning development such as poverty, civil society, and security.
